Day 2

Ava-R

Yellow Group

October 2nd

On day 2 at the Cardigan Mountain trip, all the groups on the first session hiked up Cardigan. My group hiked up Firescrew to Cardigan. On the way, we stopped and tried some spruce gum- IT WAS AWFUL! Never try it if you haven't... Anyway, it took the whole day to hike up the six mile mountains, and on the way to the Cardigan Summit from the top of Firescrew, there were wild cranberries that were really tart and a little bitter. This could count as Human Environment Interaction, because we were picking the berries. I thought that it was nice to know they were edible, because if someone hadn't pointed them out, I would've walked right past them...

Some of the other things that we did at Cardigan on day 2, was when we ate breakfast (counts as cultural!), sketched in our sketch books, and even the clothing that we wore on our hikes, and around the lodge. Like I said in my Physical Geography! paragraph, my group (Josh's group) hiked up Firescrew to Cardigan, and when we were hiking, we were making a mark in the trail. This is Human Environment Interaction, because we are leaving a mark in the earth as we move, and changing what would've been their before. The sketches that I did on the Cardigan hike, was an American Beech, a small cave-like structure, the view off of Cardigan, and an Ash tree, even though I wasn't looking at a particular one. Both the Ash and the American Beech sketches I drew were on birch bark. I actually liked the effect the birch bark had on my sketch, because it showed it was really from nature. The sad thing, is that when my group went to the stream on day 3, is that both of them floated down the stream, and half of the ink on them came out so you can hardly tell what it is now. Some clothing that we wore hiking, was (NO COTTON!) a fleece, nylon or fleece shirt, athletic pants (I wore shorts...), a hat, backpack, socks, hiking boots, etc. After the hike and dinner, each group went separate ways, and I played Bat vs. Moth with my group. Later when we were sitting still to listen to the surrounding wildlife, we heard coyotes and an owl, along with Andy's group calling for it. Day 2 was FUN! Wish it could happen again!
